The Hangar
The aircraft aren't the only things with history.
Our hangar dates back to WWII!
The facility itself where the collection is located is the oldest building at Ellington Field. The hangar itself dates back to WWII, and currently we are unsure of its exact build date. The oldest photo we have of the facility dates it to 1938, where it was used as a paint shop for aircraft at that time.
It is unrestored, however extremely structurally sound. Excluding the historic aircraft in the collection, the hangar itself is a sight to behold to witness with its historic structure and design. The hangar doors themselves are a unique statement to how hangars used to be built, and are on massive iron rollers.
The roof is built out of red iron trusses, and has withstood the test of time for more than 80 years.
